Jordan's Digi-Pak Pieced Together

These are all four panes of my Digi-Pak placed together to give myself and viewers a chance to see how it all fits together as an album.

Jordan's Magazine Advert

When creating my magazine advert I wanted to use minimal text on the page to create a sense of wanting to find out more, also I felt that if I had too much text on the page then viewers would struggle to read all of it and would lose interest quickly whereas putting the main pieces of information on the page in a large font would get straight to the point. I used the same image that I used for the front cover of the real album so that it would be recognisable to the audience when they saw it advertised and they could make that link with it being in a magazine and on the shelves. By adding ratings from well-known magazine and national papers gives it a boost as these are recognised by all ages of people giving it a wider target audience from a selling perspective. By adding a website at the bottom it gives the viewer a chance to go online and find out more about it which could lead to more advertising and sales. I took this inspiration from seeing an advert for the artist Rita Ora’s new album as they have used the same image as they have for the actual album cover. They have added some songs on the list and a release date, also a website for more information placed at the bottom. By keeping it minimalistic they allow the viewer to take in more of the important information that the advert is selling to them, also making it clear what it is advertising.

Jordan's Front Cover

When designing the front cover of my digi-pak I wanted to use unrealistic effects to make it more interesting and appealing to the human eye, additionally I wanted it to have an individual look to match our genre of indie pop. I experimented with different effects on the editing software Adobe Photoshop CS4 such as “Ripple”, “Zig Zag”, “Twirl” and “Radial Blur”. After comparing these effects and their outcomes I finally decided to go with the Radial Blur effect as I felt that it was the most intriguing as it draws the eye in more. I will be keeping this chosen effect throughout my whole digi-pak for continuity purposes.

Jordan's Back Cover

By keeping the same Photoshop effect on the back cover I am upholding the continuity within my digi-pak, the reason I used this image is because Will has his back to the camera lens and is walking away from it which helps to signify the end of the album and the digi-pak as it is the opposite to the front cover where Will is facing more towards the camera. When placing the bar code on the digi-pak I used Photoshop’s “Magic Wand Tool” to erase the white coloured background so it doesn't draw attention away from the main focus points of the back cover.

Jordan's Inside Cover

When it came to my inside cover I wanted to use a close-up of Will as all the others had been long shots and I wanted to make sure had a variety of shots used within my digi-pak. I still used the effect around the Will of the radial blur to keep continuity going but I did not add any more text to that to keep it from overcrowding my whole digi-pak.

Jordan's CD

I wanted to keep the autumn theme on my CD along with everything else. I used a photograph of leaves and added the radial blur effect so that it went around like the same radial shape of the CD. I added many layers of the text “Beyond Metro” with the font ‘Embossing Tape 3’ and placed them on top of the blurred CD so that they ran down in equal columns across the whole thing which gives it an illusion like effect for the human eye making it more interesting like the other panes of my digi-pak.

Jordan's Editing Techniques

The techniques shown below I wanted to apply to every pane of my digi-pak which is why I have explained how I made certain effects using certain tools in general and not just for one particular thing.

Jordan's Chosen Raw Images

These are the four photos that I have chosen to be used within my Digi-Pak unedited, when comparing the finished product viewers will be able to see the difference that has been made and the enhancements will be clear.

Jordan's Magazine Advert Mock-Up

When making my magazine advert I took a lot of inspiration form the Jessie J one that I analysed in one the prezi’s that I made. I decided to use the same image as I used on the front cover of my digi-pak and the title of the band and of the album. I then added ratings onto it to make it different from the Jessie J one and make it my own, I added on the date of release and a website for the band to keep people interested and wonder about who the artist is and when the album will be released as I felt that if I revealed too much information then the interest to know a lot more about it would be non-existent which would affect possible sales and more advertising if people did not visit the website.

Jordan's Digi-Pak Mock-Up

When designing my digi-pak I decided that I wanted to put a heavy emphasis on Will as the lead singer and have him appearing throughout most of the album and not all of it so that it doesn’t become to repetitive. For the front cover I will have a long shot main image of Will and above his head I will have the band name (Beyond Metro) in a large font and underneath that a smaller size of the same font stating the album name (She’s So Lovely). The front is where I want to show the most clear and full specification of Will so that people clearly know who the lead singer is for the album. The back will have an image similar to the front but this time Will is turned away from the lens to show his back being the back of the album, (this also applies to the front). However he will be situated on the left hand side and the track list is situated on the right hand side which is helping me to apply by the rule of thirds to the back cover of my album. Along the bottom in the middle id the copyright disclaimer in a very small font and next to it on the right is the barcode. I did not want to overcrowd the cover so I left as much space as I could so that viewers could see separate things clearly. For the inside cover I decided to have a close up of Will slap bang in the middle as I wanted viewers to see his features on his face at a closer distance compared to the other two images and also decided to have no other information on there at all as most of the important information had been placed on either the front or back cover, I felt I did not need to fill up the space because there was space there otherwise it would become too crowded with useless information. The CD is the only pane where Will shall not be seen present as that action would become repetitive, instead I filled it with the band name that covers the CD in equal columns, by doing this I have made a pattern and made it a bit different to the rest of the digi-pak as the others are not crowded with text or information.

Jordan's Final 3 Fonts

When I was searching for certain texts that I could use I decided to bring it down to 3 possible choices. I placed these three texts together and considered which one would match an indie pop theme and fitted with the conventions of indie pop but wasn't to plain and had an interesting look to it. The font on the first line I thought was simple but what made it interesting was that it had all the closed gaps coloured in black and the decoration on one of the letters that made it look a bit unique. The second one has a dirty like print style which I thought really matched the setting to our video as it is situated in a wooded area out in the open countryside. The third one I thought had a very party like look as each letter is placed in a black coloured balloon; it is a fun font and is very lively. However after careful consideration I decided to go with the second font “Embossing Tape 3” as I feel that it had the edge due to the fact that it wasn't to detailed or over the top as the other two were and it fitted well when designing my digi-pak.

Jordan's Indie Pop Moodboard

I have gathered these pictures using the internet to gather some inspiration for pictures, lighting ideas, costume ideas and colour theme ideas for our video to come, any ideas we additionally have and for our Digi-Pak.

Jordan's Music Video Analysis

This is my analysis of the music video "Black Heart" by the band Stooshe. I have looked at the camera angles, sound techniques, editing techniques and the Mise-en-Scene used to portray the story of the video.
